Care and Maintenance

With proper care, your EKO trash can should last many years.  If you have concerns, please contact us at 1-800-922-5524.

General Notes:

  • Keep steel dry and clean.  Avoid exposing the can to excessive humidity or wetness.  Always dry the can after cleaning.
  • Avoid extreme heat and cold and undue temperature fluxuations.

Troubleshooting Sensor Function

Press and hold the "close" button for 5 seconds to reset the sensor function.  Do this whenever the can has been OFF for awhile and when replacing batteries.
Ensure batteries are oriented correctly as marked on the lid.
Ensure all batteries (or replacement batteries) are NEW.  Avoid mixing old and new batteries.  For best results, avoid rechargeable batteries.
Clear debris from sensor area and underside of lid.
Ensure other things in the environment are not activating the lid (ex. a blowing curtain activating the sensor and overusing battery).

Using the Bag Fixer

The bag fixer in this handless sensor trash can is a plastic rim with 2 plastic wings (like butterfly wings).  It is designed to keep plastic bag liners in place inside the can.  For best results, remove the fixer before removing a full bag of trash from the can, and put the fixer back in the can before putting a new plastic liner in the can.

Emptying a full trash can:

  1. Gently pop the wings of the bag fixer up,
  2. Unwrap the bag top,
  4. Take out the full trash bag liner.

Inserting a new plastic liner:

  1. Insert the rim back onto the can and lift the wings to the up position,
  2. Put the bag in the center of the can and wrap the top edge of the bag around the wings,
  3. Press wings down gently (open butterfly) to lock bag in place.
